Beer BBQ Sauce Recipe

beerAfter putting up my Beer Can Chicken Recipe I started thinking, was there any good recipes for Beer BBQ Sauce?  I had to admit, I've made a lot of different BBQ Sauces over the years but I had yet to make an actual Beer BBQ Sauce.  So, I searched around and found a few to try out.  I haven't tried the Jalapeno Beer BBQ Sauce Recipe below yet, but it intrigued me after having tried a Jalapeno beer just about a week ago when I was in Denver for the week.  Or was it a chili pepper beer?

Now, I'm sure you may be asking, what beer is best.  When I tried this recipe, I used my favorite, as usual, Blue Moon.  I like the wheat beers but I'm sure you could use anything from a Guiness to a Bud Light.  If any of you happen to stumple on a beer or version of the recipe that just knocks you out, you'll have to come back here and let me know so I can post it.  Or, post it yourself below in the comments section.

Beer BBQ Sauce Recipe #1 (A Simple Recipe):

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 small yellow Onion, peeled and chopped
  • 1 clove Garlic, peeled, mashed and chopped
  • 6 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 2 Cups Beer
  • 2 Cups Chili Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper

Directions:  In a medium saucepan, heat the oil and sauté pepper, salt, onion and garlic until translucent.  Do not overcook the garlic and onion which will happen if the color gets too dark as you cook it.  Add lemon juice, beer, chili sauce and Worcestershire sauce.  Cook over medium heat for five to seven minutes, until sauce bubbles rapidly.

As I mentioned, I haven't tried this one yet but it just looked interesting so I thought I'd include it as well.  However, I did try the chili beer in the picture on the right recently.  Wow, what a kick.  Not something I'd drink a 6-pack of but it was a good flavor without being too hot.

Ingredients:

  • 2 green Jalapenos, pith removed, stemmed, seeded and diced
  • 2 Tablespoons Garlic, peeled, mashed and chopped
  • 2/3 cup yellow Onion, peeled and chopped
  • 3 large canned green Chile Peppers, drained
  • 1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Cup Dark Beer
  • 1 Cup Tomatoes, peeled, stemmed, cored and seeded, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon dried Oregano, powdered
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper, freshly ground
  • Salt to taste

Directions:

  1. Sauté the jalapeno peppers, garlic, onion and Chile peppers in a medium skillet with the vegetable oil until onions are translucent.
  2. Pour into blender, add, beer, tomatoes, oregano and cayenne.
  3. Blend until smooth. Use Jalapeno Beer BBQ sauce as a BBQ sauce during the last 10 minutes of cooking.
