Jack Daniel's Barbecue Sauce
At the time I wrote this article, Jack Daniel's had 6 different flavors of their Jack Daniel's Barbecue Sauces. The newest one being the Jack Daniel's Master Blend. According to their website, this new sauce delivers more of the Jack Daniel's flavor than their Original No. 7 recipe.
My first experience with a Jack Daniel's BBQ Sauce was at TGI Friday's sometime way back in the 1990's. I'm not sure if that was the first appearance of the sauce and then it become a sauce that was packaged to sell in stores or not. I'll continue doing my research and add to this article as I find out.
The 6 different sauces offered now are:
Jack Daniel's Master Blend
Jack Daniel's Original No. 7 Recipe
Jack Daniel's Honey Smokehouse
Jack Daniel's Hickory Brown Sugar
Jack Daniel's Spicy Original Recipe
Jack Daniel's Steakhouse
Jack Daniel's also has several Marinades as well as they continue to expand their line of products. I've compiled a few secret recipes for making your own grilling and BBQ sauce using Jack Daniel's Whiskey. The really good one is the TGI Friday's knockoff recipe for their Jack Daniel's sauce. Secret Recipe #4: TGI Friday's Jack Daniel's Dipping/Grilling Sauce (with pineapple):
Personally, I thin this recipe is closer to the TGI Friday's Jack Daniel's dipping sauce because of the use of pineapples, especially the crushed pineapples!
Ingredients:
- 1 head of garlic
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 1/3 cups dark brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3 tablespoons white onion (minced)
- 1 tablespoon whiskey
- 1 tablespoon crushed pineapple
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Directions:
- (Preparing the Garlic) Cut about 1/2-inch off of top of garlic. Cut the roots so that the garlic will sit flat. Remove the papery skin from the garlic, but leave enough so that the cloves stay
together. Put garlic into a small casserole dish or baking pan, drizzle olive oil over it, and cover with a lid or foil. Bake in a preheated 325ºF oven for 1 hour. Remove garlic and let it cool until you can handle it. - Combine the water, pineapple juice, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, and brown sugar in a medium saucepan over medium/high heat. Stir occasionally until mixture boils then reduce heat until mixture is just simmering.
- Squeeze the sides of the head of garlic until the pasty roasted garlic is squeezed out. Measure 2 teaspoons into the saucepan and whisk to combine.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the pan and stir.
- Let mixture simmer for 40-50 minutes or until sauce has reduced by about 1/2 and is thick and syrupy. Make sure it doesn't boil over.
Makes 1 cup.
