Apple and Honey BBQ Glaze

Apples and Honey

Apples and Honey

For a sweet glaze for just about any meat dish, try this wonderful Apple and Honey BBQ glaze.  Personally I think its great on chicken or pork.  I even have two different recipes for this honey BBQ glaze depending on your tastes.  This is not a true BBQ sauce so it is a glaze or basting sauce but boy are both of them great!

Roast Pork

Roast Pork

Apple Honey Glaze for Pork
Author:
Recipe type: Sauce/Glaze

This apple honey glaze recipe was developed specifically for pork. Probably it’s the garlic that makes it better for pork than other meats. However, it’s probably also great for pork chops and other cuts of pork then just a pork roast.
Ingredients
  • 3 lbs pork loin roast
  • 5 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups apple juice
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon oregano
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions
  1. In medium saucepan, add 3 tablespoons of olive oil, onions and garlic.
  2. Saute for a few minutes until onion and garlic are soft and translucent.
  3. Stir in the apple juice and boil on high until contents are reduced by half.
  4. Add honey, oregano and sage. Continue to cook until glaze is thick.
  5. Stir in Dijon mustard, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.
  6. Preheat oven to 350F.
  7. Pour remaining olive oil into heavy frying pan. Turn heat to high setting and add roast, searing on all sides until browned.
  8. Place roast in oven and roast about 45 minutes to an hour. Spoon glaze over pork roast several times as it cooks. Allow roast to cool slightly before slicing.
