Chili Pepper BBQ Sauce Recipes

Chili Peppers

Chili Peppers

Hot barbecue sauces are great if you enjoy “kickin it up a notch” as Emeril Lagasse would say.   Now Jalapeno is by far NOT the hottest pepper out there.  In fact, it’s one of the milder hot peppers available.  So if you are ready for really hot barbecue sauce you might want to try some of the Habanero barbecue sauce recipes.  If not, and you are just venturing into the land of HOT, then this is a great place to start.

If you haven’t made hot sauces before and you don’t know how much heat you can take, you might want to try one of the recipes with the least amount of peppers or just cut down the amount of hot peppers in any of the recipes and ease into it!  Hot dishes are definitely an acquired taste.  Not many people come out of the womb ready to eat the hottest food around!  So, be careful, be adventurous and definitely give some of these hot and spicy barbecue sauces a try and see how you like them!

Honey Jalapeno BBQ Sauce Recipe

Jalapeno

Jalapeno

Okay, I have this recipe for Honey Jalapeno BBQ Sauce also listed in the Hot & Spicy section of the website.  But since it included honey, I wanted to make sure all of the “honey” BBQ Sauces were listed together in one place since Honey BBQ Sauces are probably the most desired type of BBQ Sauce Recipes around.

This recipe, however, is truly a cheat if you are in a hurry for a quick Honey Jalapeno BBQ Sauce.  Why?  Well, it’s not a “from scratch” recipe.  Simply take your favorite store bought barbecue sauce and add the honey and jalapenos to sweeten and spice it up.  You could always choose an existing honey bbq sauce and skip adding the honey, but adding honey really sweetens it up which I like.  The whiskey adds a nice flavor as well which you won’t find in many store bought sauces.  If you don’t want to use a store bought sauces, you can take a basic tomato based BBQ sauce recipe from our “The Basics” section and have a completely homemade honey barbecue sauce which I would recommend.

Chipotle and Red Wine Barbecue Sauce

Red Wine

Red Wine

This barbecue sauce can be used as a serving/dipping sauce as well as a basting sauce. It works well on just about any meat.  I’m a huge fan of chipotle which I’ve noticed is now popping up everywhere in restaurants and in various grocery products.  If you aren’t familiar with Chipotle and what they are, they are simply smoked Jalepeno’s that give them a really nice smoky flavor.  If you are interested in other Chipotle barbecue sauce recipes you should take a look at our whole list of Chipotle and Jalepeno barbecue sauce recipes by clicking the link.

Jalapeno BBQ Sauce Recipes

Chipotle Chile

Chipotle Chile

This section is dedicated to the most common type of Hot and Spicy barbecue sauces.  The Jalapeno and Chipotle Chili based sauces.

Chipotle chilies add a great smoky flavor to food and in particular these barbecue sauce recipes.  What are Chipotle chilies you ask?  They are dried and smoked Jalapeno peppers which gives them a unique taste which is quite different than the normal Jalapeno you are used to.

The picture above shows the most common type of Chipotle you will find which happens to be known as the morita.  This is most likely what you’ll find at your local grocery store unless you happen to have a store with a great variety of mexican food.  In that case, give the recipe a try with other types of Chipotle and let us know.  We’d be happy to have you post your comments on using other varieties of Chipotle and chili peppers.
