Watermelon BBQ Sauce
Now this is something you won’t find anywhere on your grocery shelf. A Watermelon BBQ Sauce! I didn’t research to find out where this came from like some of the other recipes I have posted. My grandmother used to make watermelon jelly and she’s from the south in Tennessee so this might have been from that region in the south, I don’t know.
- 1 cup (225 ml) dark corn syrup
- ½ cup (125 ml) water
- ¼ cup (60 ml) ketchup
- ¼ cup (60 ml) distilled vinegar
- ¾ tsp (4 ml) crushed red pepper flakes
- ½ tsp (2 ml) liquid smoke
- ¼ tsp (1 ml) black pepper
- 4 pounds baby back ribs
- Cut off the green skin and about half an inch of the hard white part, keeping the part of the watermelon that is lighter red to white.
- Stay away from the harder, white rind just inside the green skin.
- Put the rind into a food processor and puree for about only 10 seconds. Strain the liquid from the pulp and use one cup of pulp, measured after straining.
- Combine the pulp with remaining ingredients in a medium size saucepan over high heat.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 1 hour or until it is as thick as you like.
- Cut racks of ribs into plate size portions, 6 to 7 bones per rack.
- Brush ribs with the sauce and wrap each rack individually in aluminum foil. Save some sauce for later.
- Let ribs marinate overnight.
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees (150 C.) F.
- Set the ribs with the seam of the foil facing up, into the oven.
- Bake for 2 to 21/2 hours or until tender.
- Remove ribs from foil, baste with sauce and grill over hot BBQ for 2 to 4 minutes per side, or until you see several spots of charred sauce.
- Serve with remaining sauce on the side.
Strawberry BBQ Sauce
Of all the fruits out there, Strawberry is probably my favorite. With all the other types of BBQ sauce out there, you don’t ever find a strawberry BBQ Sauce, so here’s your chance. Your certainly could use fresh strawberries but you’d want to add some sugar to make sure and bring out the flavor in the strawberries.
- 1 Clove garlic
- ¼ Cup chopped red or sweet white onion, chopped
- 1 Teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 Tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
- ¼ Cup strawberry jam
- 2 Tablespoon lemon juice
- ½ Cup ketchup
- Dash cayenne powder or Tabasco Sauce
- Freshly grated pepper (to taste)
- 2 Cup unsweetened strawberries (stems removed)
- Combine strawberries, garlic and onions in a blender. Add the remaining ingredients and continue to blend until smooth. Season to taste.
- Set aside a small amount for use as a dipping sauce when serving. Brush remaining sauce on meat, poultry or fish during last 10 minutes of grilling.
- Refrigerate until ready to use.You may use either fresh or frozen unsweetened strawberries for this recipe.

Peach BBQ Sauce
I’m a huge fan of peaches and this Peach BBQ Sauce really hits the spot. This Peach BBQ sauce reminds me of a peach salsa that also like to fix which actually might taste pretty good along side the BBQ chicken if you were to fix the salsa chunky. I’ll have to upload that recipe and link to it in case any of you want to fix it along with his Sauce recipe.
- 1 pound fresh peaches
- ¾ cup chopped sweet onion such as a Vidalia
- 1½ tablespoons minced fresh jalapeno with seeds
- 1 tablespoon canola oil

- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- ¾ teaspoon light brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon chili powder

- Cooks’ note: Sauce can be made 3 days ahead and chilled, uncovered, until cool, then covered.
Mango BBQ Sauce (dipping sauce/glaze)
If you like Mangos like I do, then you’ll LOVE this Mango BBQ sauce recipe. I have to admit, this isn’t a traditional barbecue sauce since it does not have tomatoes or the other typical base BBQ sauce items. Therefore, it’s really more of just Mango sauce or a Mango dipping sauce. However, since Mangos are about my favorite exotic flavor, I couldn’t resist putting this recipe in here.
- 4 ripe mangos
- 4 chipotle adobado peppers
- 6 TBSP brown sugar
- 4 TBSP vinegar
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- salt and pepper
- Puree mango and chipotle peppers in a blender until you get a smooth paste.
- Pour the paste in a saucepan and cook over medium heat.
- Add brown sugar, vinegar, cumin and salt and pepper to taste. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Retire from stove top and let it cool.
